Hey! I hope you had a good week 🙂
Lately, I've been a bit frustrated because I know that I need to improve on a lot of technical aspects of my illustrations, such as gesture, light and shadow, and anatomy. But there's one thing that's bothered me the most, and that's the fact that I still can't paint the illustrations and like the result in terms of rendering.
I've been thinking about what it could be and I've come to the conclusion that I don't like the way I paint. I like texture and my illustrations lacked texture.
While I was thinking about it, I came across Lucy Fleming's course on how to paint magical scenes. I already followed Lucy on Instagram, but I hadn't realized she had a course about how to paint in her style. I like her illustrations because, although they're digital, they look like they've been done with traditional media.
So last weekend I watched her course, did some of the exercises she does in the class, and tried to paint a mushroom using Lucy's tips.
I still want to do the same project she did for the course to really understand which brushes she uses and how she uses them, and I also would like to create my own illustration for the final project of the course, which will be a retelling of The Beauty and the Beast story. But until the final illustration comes out, I'll leave you with the mushroom I've already made based on the techniques I’ve learned in the course.
That's it, have a good weekend folks! Mine will be divided by rest and work on my Behance portfolio, in which I will include the latest illustrations I've done.
See you next week! 🍄🌸
