Hi there,
This week has been challenging. I had until yesterday to finish a complex scenario for a project I joined (spoiler: I'm still working on it). Basically, I have to draw and paint a medieval square with a fountain, a market, and people. My personal challenge was that I had never drawn such a complex scenario before, so I didn't know where to start to refine the rough sketch.
I started working with values to understand if I wanted a night light or a daylight. In the end, I chose a night light because the light from the torches, the braziers, and the moon will make the scene magical, which is perfect for a medieval scenario.
I almost gave up on finishing this illustration. But then, in the value process, I got an idea of how I wanted to paint it and was excited to finish this illustration. So I didn't finish the entire value step and went straight to line art. And here is the result:
I wish I had the idea of how to finish it before, so I could spend more time adding details to the scenario, like more cats, more people, plants, and other hidden things.
Now I have to start painting. So in the next newsletter, I can show you the result of this illustration.
Analyzing how excited I was when I decided how to finish this illustration, and how excited I was to add all these details, I realized that I like drawing scenarios more than characters. It's cool to add elements to tell little stories within a big scenario.
Do you like scenarios as well? Do you have any online courses you would recommend for making scenarios? If so, leave the name in the comments to help me and other artists who want to learn more about scenarios.
Art Tips
I have 2 videos and 2 websites to recommend this week. Let's start with the videos.
I don't know if you like Lady Gaga or not, but it doesn't matter, the thing is in this video you can see how was her process for creating her latest released song. And I think this video is nice you can see the creative process of an artist from a different area.
Recently I saw a very resourceful video about what is visual language and how to apply it in your illustrations. So I would like to share this video with you.
And this week I also uploaded some projects to my portfolio, and for that,t I used some free mockups. Some people asked me where I get them from and I thought it would be good to share them here as well. So, usually, I use MockupTree, Mockups-design, and Graphic Burger websites to get the free mockups. Below you can see one of the mockups I used:
Fantasy Art Club
And finally, our art club. Last week I announced this club and shared a poll to see what the name of our art club would be. I shared a poll here and also on Threads. Counting the votes on both platforms, we have 2 votes for Fantasy Art Club, 1 vote for Whimsy Art Club, and 1 vote for The Mystic Brush Art Guild. So we have a winner: Fantasy Art Club 🎉
The last theme was Witch, and to be honest, I didn't have time to draw it last week. So let's extend it for another week. During this week I'll share my sketches on my Instagram and I'll share yours, just tag me :).
A reminder, on my Pinterest, are the references for witches. Have fun!
See you next week ✨💚
